10 years of care
A Christmas tree takes 8-1o years to grow so large that it can be felled and sold. At Overgaard Christmas trees I/S we put a lot of effort into taking good care of our trees for several years. This picture series shows a Christmas trees development over 10 years – from the very beginning until it is ready for felling.

The Tree is 1 year old
We buy the plants from the nursery, when they are 3 years old (2/1 or 3/0) and have a height of 15-20 cm. We plant them with a machine at a distance of 1,25 cm x 1,25 cm.

The Tree is 2 years old
Every plant is controlled. If the plant does not look healthy, we will plant a new one instead, and if the top is destroyed, it will be repaired. Each plant is fertilized with a handful of organic fertilizer in spring, and weeds between all plants are removed.

Every tree is controlled. If the top is destroyed, it will be repaired. Each plant is fertilized with a large handful of organic fertilizer in the spring and weeds between all trees are removed. The lower branches (0-25cm) are removed, and the tree shape is cut, so that it has a beautiful shape.

In May, we put a small stick of wood on tree’s top with a clamp. This protects the tree from birds sitting on the tree’s top, causing it to break. If needed, some of the new shots are broken off in June, so the tree gets an even more beautiful shape. The largest of the trees will be sold and harvested in November or December.

If needed, some of the new shots are broken off in June, so the tree gets an even more beautiful shape. The mainpart of the trees will be sold and harvested in November or December.
